ATF eForm Website Now Contains Form 20 and SOT Form

ATF eForm Website Announcement

The ATF office has gotten back to work processing forms. This means gun stores can actually transfer NFA items to customers as approvals come through. What’s better is that progress has continued with both Form 20 and the SOT form being added to the ATF eForm website. The ATF announced this on X.

ATF eForm 20

ATF Form 20 (Form 5320.20) is the application used to get approval before transporting certain NFA firearms across state lines or exporting them temporarily. Dealers use it to move inventory between locations, attend trade shows or relocate their business. Individuals also use Form 20 when traveling across state lines to go to ranges, events or relocating.

Special Occupational Tax Form

The SOT form (Form 5630.7) allows Federal Firearms License holders to pay the annual Special Occupational Tax, which grants them “Class 3” status — the legal ability to buy, sell, and transfer NFA firearms without paying a per-item transfer tax. A SOT is pretty much required to buy, sell and transfer NFA items regularly. This includes providing these items to law enforcement.

Benefits of ATF eForm Website

  • Helps prevents mistakes, such as using outdated form. Fewer errors means fewer delays.
  • Having the forms online speeds up approval, making the process easier.
  • Puts the processes for Form 20 and SOT in line with many other ATF processes.
  • The ATF posts processing times, which helps predict lead times.

Running a gun store today takes more than just great products and good customer service. It also means keeping up with an ever-changing set of federal rules and paperwork — especially when it comes to National Firearms Act items.
